Loveland Castle Ghost Stories
SIR HARRY’S GHOST STORY
We have a ghost here, of course. Every regular castle has its ghost. We call
ours Casper Poltergeist. Casper comes from the funny papers, and his last name
is the German for friendly ghost. No one has ever seen him. They say that is
because he died a natural death. It is only the ghosts of murdered people whose
ghosts can be seen. He will not harm anybody unless you get him angry. Then he
will touch you and give you an electric shock, sometime a hard one. Recently a
girl sat on his bed and made fun of him and called him names. Suddenly she
leaped almost to the ceiling, and yelled like bloody murder. She got a real
shock, and would not sit there again. This ghost stays in the day bed until
midnight. Then he gets up and wanders about the place sometimes playing tricks
on us. He often pounds on a door, and/or rings the doorbell. When he first came,
I thought it might be some neighbor kids playing tricks. However, after a couple
of months I found out differently. In the evening we had about a half-inch of
fresh snow. About one o’clock in the morning, there was a loud knock on the back
door upstairs. Now, I said to myself if it is a person, there would be tracks. I
investigated, no tracks. There is another way I can tell whenever a Knight comes
to stay over the rest of the night, he knocks, and then repeats, giving the
password. The ghost never repeats so I always wait for the second knock before I
go to the door.
We have had several other ghosts here before, but none who ever came indoors and
stayed for seventeen years, however there was who stayed sixteen years. We had a
weeping willow tree South of the castle and the ghost stayed near that tree.
Thousands of people have seen him from the castle roof. I had him trained so I
could coax him to lie down, turn over or disappear. He was shaped like an egg
outline, with two big eyes near the smaller end. He was transparent like
plastic, and grass and weeds could be seen right through him. I could talk to
him, but if anyone else said one word, he would disappear and I would have to
coax him back. Several girls and women have fainted when he moved towards them.
When the willow tree died the ghost left for good-maybe. Of course we have had
other ghosts. One was a girl in a long dress, which walked on the water from
across the river and would come and sit on the seats on top of the garage. Now
that we have a streetlight in front she has not returned. Then there was a bi
tall Viking dressed in a long dark cloak, wearing a spiked helmet, and carrying
a short, wide sword across his chest. He would appear by the North round part of
the castle addition. You could watch him as long as you wished, but if you
glanced away, he would disappear. He never came inside, and showed himself only
a few times
SIR JOE'S GHOST STORY
One day in 2001 Sir Joe and Sir Tim where working around the Castle all day
and after putting in some long hours they decided it was time to call it a day
and sit down, relax and plan the next days work. After resting a while they
heard the Bathroom door in the Ballroom slam shut, knowing that they are the
only ones there, the both ran up the steps to find out who had snuck into the
Castle, after a through search they found no none in the building and nothing
amiss.
This happened twice more and each time nothing or no one was found that could
explain the slamming of the door until Sir Joe said “somebody or something is
trying to tell us that something is wrong with the Bathroom”, Sir Tim accused
Sir Joe of being “nuts”.
The next morning Sir Joe got to thinking about what had occurred the night
before and decided to give the Bathroom a real good checking out and again found
nothing so he moved his search outside to check on the pipes running to the
septic tank and found that it was about to overflow and cause a real mess in the
garden area, thanks to the warning from who or what a real problem was avoided.
SIR BILL’S GHOST STORY
One Saturday night after a
long day of working on the Castle the Knights and Ladies decided
to unwind by having a little party and as several members play
musical instruments we where able to have live music at this get
together.
About an hour into the party I noticed that a heavy overhead
light was swinging back and forth with the music and when I
called everyone’s attention to it and they stopped playing the
lamp stopped. When I say stopped it stopped dead, it did not
slow then stop, it just stopped. As the night wore on if the
lamp liked the song being played it would swing in time to the
music if it didn’t it would hang their perfectly still.

LADY DONNA JEANS' GHOST STORY
I was supervising a Scout overnight in May of 1989 and all
the Scouts and their leaders were down by the river at the Fire
Ring. As is my habit I did a complete perimeter check of the
Castle. When I finished it was between 11.00 p.m. & 11.30p.m. I
sat down on the round cement step to relax.
As I sat there I looked over to my right and noticed a figure on
the road by the Port-a-potties coming up to the gardens. The
figure was transparent, whitish in color and was very flowing,
like a woman with shoulder length hair and in a long billowy
gown.
She walked up to the garden area where I was and disappeared.
That scared me, but as I sat there, I remembered that Mr.
Andrews told the story of a man and his wife that built their
cabin at the front of a cave down river from the castle and made
moonshine.
One day there was an explosion and Mr. Andrews with his Knights
and Squires ran down to the cabin to find it in ruin from the
blast. When it was safe they entered the half cave and half
cabin and found the woman dead under a whiskey barrel.
From that time on she has been seen many times, not only by Mr.
Andrews and the Knights, but many visitors as well.
LADY CHRISTIE'S GHOST STORY
My story, in winter of 1987 I was at the Castle with Sir Ron
Irvin, visiting one evening. Sir Ron had just got off work and
was covered in mud and decided to take a shower. We were the
only two at the Castle that evening, and I decided to wait in
the French Ballroom. I was sitting in a chair by the bathroom
just inside the archway. I was facing towards Sir Harry's
bedroom and the spiral staircase. I saw a huge shadow of
something coming up the staircase, very slowly. With the
lighting if it was a moth or insect it would have fluttered
about, but this shadow was the size of a human, and it continued
to move up the steps towards the top. By this time I was scared
and moved very fast to get Sir Ron. By the time I looked again
it was at the first archway, and by this time I was screaming
and banging on the door. When Sir Ron came out the figure was
gone. Needless to say, we left, because he had felt the presence
too. We felt whatever it was at that time, wasn't going to hurt
us, but we just had the creeps and decided to leave. Since then,
I've been very leery of the spiral staircase.
